$0.0285 per Kentucky mile, filed quarterly. A tax, not a flat permit fee — and you file even in quarters you never entered the state.
Who needs it
Any vehicle at 60,000 lbs combined licensed weight or more running in Kentucky — whether you pick up, deliver, or only pass through on I-65, I-75 or I-24.
How you get it
Register for a KYU number with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, then file quarterly on the miles you ran in the state. There is a temporary permit for one-off trips if you are not registered.
The part that catches people
Pass-through catches people. A run from Nashville to Cincinnati never stops in Kentucky and owes the tax anyway.
